Filter: For all plastics (CPVC, PP), pumps, pipe fittings and devices, it should be used when performing bath conversion filtering, 1 micron PP filter element. Also when adding copper and chelating agent, it is necessary to use a 10-20 micron PP bag filter in the overflow.

Filtration: MID ECu901 needs to be continuously filtered through an overflow filter bag in an overflow tank. When performing bath transfer, Before transferring the bath liquid to a clean container, use a mesh, 1 micron PP filter element to filter the MID ECu solution to remove copper particles, impurities and other suspended solids. When in contact with the solution, use a metal-free all-plastic pump.

Stirring: a slight and uniform air stirring is required. Input clean, dry filter through blower instead of compressor  air. It also requires working rods and mechanical stirring.

Ventilation: need 50FPM (85 cubic meters per hour)

Tank fluid maintenance and replenishment:

Determination of copper concentration

Reagent

1. 20% sulfuric acid solution

2. Potassium Iodide

3. 10% potassium thiocyanide ( 100g/L )

4. 0.1N sodium thiosulfate

5. 1% starch solution

method

1. Pipet 25ml of working bath liquid into a 250ml conical flask.

2. Add 50ml of pure water.

3. Add 25ml of 20% sulfuric acid and mix.

4. Add 1-3 grams of potassium iodide.

5. Add 20ml of 10% potassium thiocyanide.

6. Titrate with 0.1N sodium thiosulfate to light yellow.

7. Add 5ml of 1% starch solution.

8. Slowly titrate with 0.1N sodium thiosulfate, the color of the solution changes from purple black to milky white as the end point. Record what is used

The number of milliliters of 0.1N sodium thiosulfate.

Calculation sodium thiosulfate (ml) x sodium thiosulfate equivalent x 63.5 = g/L copper

Every 6ml/L MID HS chemical copper additive will increase its copper concentration by 0.5 g/L

The concentration of formaldehyde increased by 0.5 g/L , but the concentration of alkali decreased by 0.2 g/L

 

Free alkali concentration determination

Reagent

1. 0.5N hydrochloric acid

method

1. Pipet 40ml of working bath liquid into a 250ml conical flask.

2. Using a pH meter, titrate the sample with 0.5N hydrochloric acid to a pH of 10.5.

3. Record the titration value and keep this solution for formaldehyde analysis.

Calculation : Hydrochloric acid (ml) XN (hydrochloric acid) = g/L free alkali

Additional:

Adding 3.33ml/L MID HS chemical thick copper alkalinity additive or pre-plating chemical copper alkalinity additive can increase the alkali concentration by 1 g/L .

 

Determine the concentration of formaldehyde

Reagent

1. Sulfite

2. 0.5N hydrochloric acid

method

1. Use the solution retained after the free base analysis ( pH -must be 10.0-10.5 ) and record the initial pH value.

2. Under good stirring, add 1-2 grams of sodium sulfite to the solution. The pH will rise.

3. After the pH stabilizes ( 3-5 minutes), the pH of the solution is titrated to the initial value with 0.5N HCL . Record the number of milliliters of 0.5N hydrochloric acid used .

Calculation: ml HCL XN HCL X 0.75=g/L formaldehyde

Additional

Adding 2.2ml/L MID chemical copper reducing agent can increase the concentration of formaldehyde by 1 g/L.

The formaldehyde should be slowly added to the working bath under good bath stirring. If the addition amount is greater than 2g/L , it is best to mix the reducing agent with pure water first or dilute it with water in a ratio of 50:50 .

 

Determination of total chelating agent concentration

Reagent

1. Purpuramide indicator

2. 0.01M of CuSO . 4 . 5H 2 0

method

1. Pipette 2ml of working tank liquid into a 250ml Erlenmeyer flask.

2. Add violuramide and mix until dissolved.

3. With 0.01 M of CuSO 4. 5H 2 0 titrated to a green end point.

 

Calculation: (ml of CuSO . 4 . 5H 2 0) X-(of CuSO . 4 . 5H 2 0 molar number) ten G / L a Cu /   2 63.54  = the total concentration of chelating agent  

                                 

Additional

Adding 10 ml/L of MID HS chemical copper complexing agent to the bath can increase the total chelating agent concentration by 0.01M .

 

MID HS chemical copper stabilizer B

At the end of each day, add 1.0 ml/L of MID HS chemical copper stabilizer B to the pre-plating copper tank, and add 1.0 ml/L of MID HS chemical copper stabilizer B to the thick copper tank. If it is produced 24 hours a day , add it every 12 hours.

When the bath is aging, the increase of chemical by-products in the bath will cause the specific gravity of the bath to rise. Regularly measure the specific gravity of the bath liquid and maintain it below 1.100 ( measured at 75 0 F or 24 0 C ). When the density reaches 1.100 , drain 25% of the bath volume, and then add new solution.

Long period of inactivity

If the bath does not operate for a long time, cool the bath to room temperature. It is recommended to regularly use 1 micron PP filter element to filter the tank liquid to a clean tank. During storage, proper and clean air stirring is required.

You can also adjust the pH of the bath to maintain the stability of the bath. Contact Bigley for advice on steps to stop production or restart for a long time.
