This process is a new cyanide-free alkaline zinc electroplating process. Its unique formula provides excellent distribution power to the plating solution without affecting the plating rate and cathode efficiency. The main advantages for users include reducing plating time , making zinc more efficient in use , simple operation and not easy to burn , and easy operation.

Preparation for bath building

The used tank must be thoroughly cleaned to remove the previous solution; or the new tank must be soaked with 10% warm sodium hydroxide solution.

Method one :

Low cost and time-consuming

Composed of zinc and caustic soda.

Provide ventilation equipment for the built bath.

Add 1/2 of the working volume of cold water to the building bath and add the required amount of wetting agent.

Adding sodium hydroxide into the groove of quality, in a bath with a slot on the basis of the working volume of about 120g / l sodium hydroxide to a desired concentration distribution. If there is no ventilation, the tank will heat up and produce a suffocating pungent smell.

Warning: Sodium hydroxide will release heat when it is dissolved. Add slowly in a wide area and stir well to avoid boiling and splashing.

Put many stainless steel baskets full of zinc balls in the tank we are going to use. In the process of zinc ball dissolution, zinc needs to be in direct contact with stainless steel to complete the current connection.

Keep the bath temperature above 32 ℃, the dissolution rate of zinc in the cold solution is slow. Allow the working fluid to work for 16-24 hours, or until the zinc concentration (depending on the working volume of the bath tank ) reaches about 11.3g/l .

Next, add the required amount of regulator, opener and brightener in sequence.

The cost is higher, but the operation is easy, safe and fast.

Mix tank with zinc concentrate

Add 1/2 of the tank volume of water, and add the required amount of sodium hydroxide according to the above table. Slowly add high purity sodium hydroxide to the tank while stirring.


Warning: Sodium hydroxide will release heat when it is dissolved. Add slowly in a wide area and stir well to avoid boiling and splashing.

A volume ratio of 10-20% of the zinc concentrate (depending on the desired concentration of zinc), and stirred.

Add the bath liquid to the operating liquid level with water and mix thoroughly.

Add the required amount of regulator and opener in sequence.

2 . Routine bathing techniques

Use high-purity caustic soda.

After all the additions are completed, stir the bath vigorously; use 18ASF ( 2.0ASD ) current density electrolysis for more than 24 hours before use .

The groove is preferably steel or PP . The auxiliary tank must be steel and cannot be lined.   

Filtering is recommended. It is important to use a filter at the junction with the nozzle to remove floating contaminants.

5 . Bath composition


Zinc metal

The zinc metal concentration is maintained by the zinc anode zone and the sodium hydroxide concentration. Chemical dissolution in the auxiliary tank is a better way to dissolve zinc. The maintenance parameters of zinc have been given in Section 4. It should be noted that if the anode ball is not in good contact with the steel, zinc will not dissolve quickly. Zinc oxide will not dissolve without excessive caustic soda and is not suitable for adjusting the zinc concentration.


Sodium hydroxide

The fourth section has given the parameters to maintain the sodium hydroxide level. In order to maintain its concentration at the required level, it is recommended to add a small amount of sodium hydroxide regularly. Neglecting this will affect the zinc concentration. It is very important to use a good grade of caustic soda because corrosivity is the source of purity.


Sodium carbonate

The total sodium carbonate content cannot exceed 90g/l .


6 . main ingredient



    It is recommended to maintain by chemical zinc dissolution. For a large-scale plant, it is better to separate the dissolving tank by a circulating pump. Control through analysis.

Sodium hydroxide

     It is recommended to maintain through analysis.

Adjusting agent (51011)

     Adjusting agent should be added in proportion to the sodium hydroxide, is added per 50kg of sodium hydroxide was added . 5 -1 0 liter adjusting agent.

Cylinder opening agent (51012)

     Sometimes it is added to make up for the loss.

Brightener (51015)

     Mainly supplement materials to control the distribution of plating and the brightness of deposits. The range of addition according to performance needs is: 150ml-250ml/KAH

Additives (51014)

     This material has a well-controlled deposition distribution, and its addition rate is: 50ml-70ml/KAH

Wetting agent (51016)

     It should be added according to the need to control foam. Be careful when adding this product. Excessive addition will cause excessive foam. When should add 0. 1 ml of / L increase.

     Replenishment of zinc metal consumed by electroplating

     There are two methods to choose from

Preferred method

     It is recommended to have a separate zinc " dissolution tank " . This tank can be adjusted to make the solution from the electroplating tank to the dissolution tank. It should contain a conventional steel basket with zinc balls (must be in contact with the steel to ensure the efficiency of zinc dissolution). The solution is pumped out, passes through the filter, and then enters the electroplating tank. The zinc area will be adjusted again until the concentration remains reasonably stable.

Alternative methods

     Hang a conventional mild steel basket (the basket contains zinc balls) in the tank. For convenience, these steel basket suspended on the anode beam, but must be insulated with it . In order to maintain the zinc concentration in a suitable range, the number of baskets must be carefully adjusted. During periods of prolonged downtime, these baskets should be removed. This system is more suitable for small equipment, but it is more difficult for large equipment.

Judgment of adjuster and gloss agent

     To avoid errors in free operation, the most fundamental method is to control the parameters of the process within the range given in the data sheet. The concentration of zinc and caustic soda is easy to determine by chemical analysis, but it is more difficult to control all additives. Hull Cell test can be used . It is best to use a method to accurately measure the deposition thickness (such as coulomb measurement and XRF measurement) law).
