Electroless nickel plating on copper parts is a common process used to improve the corrosion resistance and decorative properties of copper parts. However, when the plating has quality issues and needs to be deplated, it is critical to select the correct nickel remover. In this article, we will discuss why nitric acid should not be used to deplate electroless nickel plating on copper parts.
Nitric acid, as a strong oxidizing acid, is often used to treat certain metal surfaces in the plating process, but it is highly corrosive to the nickel substrate and the reaction process is complex. When reacting with nickel, nitric acid oxidizes the element nickel to its oxide, leading to corrosion of the plated layer.
In contrast, Bigely nickel remover BT-3 is a more suitable choice for stripping. It is free of cyanide and anti-dyeing salts and is not only environmentally friendly, but also relatively easy to dispose of waste water. The environmentally friendly depolymer offers significant advantages in terms of depolymerization efficiency and protection of the substrate.
BT-3 is able to strip electroplated nickel and low to medium high phosphorus electroless nickel layers quickly and with minimal corrosion of the copper substrate. This means that when BT-3 is used for deplating, the plating can be stripped off smoothly while the surface of the substrate remains intact.
