In the production process of using nickel sulfamate additives, sometimes although the stress of the coating is high, it can still meet the requirements, but the heat resistance and corrosion resistance of the coating cannot meet the requirements. So how should we improve the corrosion resistance of the coating?

Bigolly Technology made an analysis based on the field experience and the characteristics of the product nickel sulfamate additive Ni-1000, mainly including the following four points:

    1. Strengthen the pre-plating treatment process.Pre-plating treatment is a key link. Improper pre-treatment will lead to poor heat resistance and corrosion resistance of the workpiece coating. Improving the pre-plating treatment process of the workpiece improves the adhesion between the coating and the substrate.

    2. Control the concentration of each component in the plating solution.Nickel sulfamate needs to be kept at a suitable concentration, generally 400~800g/L.When the nickel sulfamate concentration is high, the nickel plating layer with problems such as roughness and pinholes is prone to occur; when the concentration is low, the deposition rate of the plating layer is slow. The concentration of boric acid should be controlled at 35~45g/L.In addition to stabilizing the pH value of the plating solution and refining the crystals, it can also reduce the roughness and scorching of the coating caused by high current density, which is closely related to the heat resistance and corrosion resistance of the coating.

    3. Control of process parameters.During the production process, the temperature should be controlled at 50~60℃ to minimize the large fluctuation of temperature, otherwise it will affect the quality of the coating. The pH value of the plating solution should be controlled at 3.5~4.5. If the pH value is too high, the coating will be rough, and if the pH value is too low, pinholes will easily occur. The plating solution can use a larger current density, but Bigolly recommends that the customer: the current density should be controlled at 1.5~3.0 A/dm2, because the higher the current density, the rougher the crystallization of the coating, and the phenomenon of burning is easy to occur.

    4. Management and maintenance of the plating solution.During the production process, the plating solution should be treated with activated carbon regularly to reduce the brittleness, pinholes and peeling of the plating caused by organic impurities. In addition, the electrolytic treatment of the plating solution should be carried out regularly to reduce the adverse effects of metal impurities on the coating, thereby improving the corrosion resistance of the coating.

In this way, when we use nickel sulfamate additives, we can improve the corrosion resistance of nickel plating layer through the above 4 points. If you are interested in nickel sulfamate additives, please contact Bigolly customer service to get free samples and detailed technical information!
