When electroless nickel solution is applied to aluminum materials, sometimes pinholes may appear in the electroless nickel layer of the workpiece. What causes this?
Bigely Technology made an analysis based on the field experience and the characteristics of the product, mainly for the following 3 reasons:
1. Electroless nickel plating solution in the concentration of wetting agent is too low. Appropriate amount of wetting agent should be added to reduce the surface tension of the plating solution, which is conducive to the discharge of blistering. For the cathode moving plating solution, can add appropriate amount of sodium dodecyl sulfate. And the plating solution with air stirring can be low or no bubble wetting agent.
2. Electroless nickel plating solution in the decomposition of additives produced by organic impurities or foreign organic impurities and grease contamination. In the chemical nickel deposition process, impurities will be entrained in the plating layer resulting in the phenomenon of pinholes. Activated carbon should be used to treat the plating solution, filtered to remove impurities.
3. Electroless nickel plating solution with more iron impurities. More iron impurities will make the chemical nickel plating in the quality reduction, the formation of spots in the plating and produce rough plating, but also will make the brittleness of the plating increased, resulting in pinholes. Iron impurities can be removed by electrolysis or precipitation.
