In the tin plating process, the peeling off of the tin layer is a problem that not only affects the appearance quality of the product, but can also have a serious impact on the performance and service life of the product. As a R&D and sales engineer of tin plating additives, I am well aware of the complexity and variety of the causes of tin plating fallout. I will analyze the causes of tin plating fallout in detail, and mention the reasons why we should use Bigely tin plating additive Sn-807.

First of all, improper pre-treatment of plating is one of the important reasons for the peeling off of tin plating layer. Unclean degreasing will easily lead to the fault of poor plating bonding. Therefore, before plating, the workpiece must be strictly cleaned and pre-treated to improve the bonding of the plated layer.

Secondly, inaccurate ratio of plating solution components is also a common cause of tin plating layer peeling. Parameters such as the pH value of the plating solution and the concentration of the main metal ions (especially the concentration of tin ions and free acid), if not properly controlled, will lead to uneven growth of the plating layer, thus affecting the bonding strength and stability of the plating layer. In addition, an increase in the content of impurity ions (such as iron, lead, copper, etc.) in the plating solution will also cause stress within the plating layer, resulting in localized fracture and peeling.

Furthermore, the selection of process parameters has an important influence on the quality of the tin plated layer. A cathode current density that is too high or too low will result in a poor quality plated layer that is easy to peel off. When the current density is too high, the plated layer becomes rough and the bonding with the substrate is weakened; while when the current density is too low, the plated layer may be too thin to withstand external physical impacts.

Therefore, we recommend that you use the tin plating additive Sn-807 to enhance the quality of your tin plated layer. This additive optimizes the composition of the plating solution, improves the bonding of the layer, and reduces problems such as blistering and peeling.
