Plastic workpieces are prone to leakage after plating, and there are certainly many reasons for this. Palladium activation is needed for two reasons:

1. The surface of the roughened ABS plastic is microporous and has a strong adsorption force. Through activation, a uniform layer of negatively charged Pd/Sn colloid can be adsorbed on its surface, turning the non-conductive plastic into an electrical conductor, thus providing a catalytic center for the later chemical nickel plating - fine palladium metal particles for the basis of chemical plating.

2. The higher the activity in the activation solution, the less likely the subsequent electroless nickel plating will leak.

How to prevent reducing the activity and stability of the activation solution?

(1) In order to prevent chromic acid in the pre-impregnated water from being carried into the activation solution, before the plastic parts enter the colloidal palladium activation solution, it is possible to consider pre-impregnating and cleaning the plastic parts once more in a palladium aqueous recycling solution, if possible, and then proceeding directly to the colloidal palladium activation without cleaning.

(2) The quality of colloidal palladium activation solution is greatly related to the preparation method. If it is improperly prepared, its activity and stability are very poor.
