In the electroplating industry, electroless nickel plated workpieces are favored for their good corrosion and abrasion resistance and uniform plating quality. However, when the thickness of the plating layer is only 2-3 microns, it becomes a challenge to pass the harsh 24-hour salt spray test. For this reason, Bigely Technology has developed a suitable electroless nickel plating solution and an oil-based sealer to solve this problem.
We recommend the use of an oil-based sealer for electroless nickel plated workpieces with thin layers and high corrosion resistance requirements. This sealer is able to bond with the plated layer and form a dense protective film, effectively insulating it from corrosive media in the environment. In order to verify its effectiveness, we conducted an experiment in which a workpiece was plated with a 2.2 micron layer using Bigely electroless nickel plating solution, left to dry, and then immersed in the oil-based sealer. The treated parts were then subjected to a 24-hour salt spray test.
The results were encouraging: the workpieces treated with the oil-based sealer easily passed the 24-hour salt spray test, while the untreated workpieces showed significant corrosion. This result proves the good performance of the oil-based sealer in improving the corrosion resistance of the plated layer.
