In recent years, black zinc passivation has been widely used as a common electroplating process to improve the appearance and corrosion resistance of galvanized layers. However, some users have found that after using black zinc passivation solution, the film salt spray capability of electroplated products has instead decreased. This phenomenon has attracted widespread attention from relevant researchers and industry. In order to effectively solve this problem, we need to gain a deeper understanding of the reasons behind it, which can be explored in the following aspects.
First of all, the nature of the main components in the black zinc passivator has a direct impact on the salt spray capability. Although trivalent chromium passivator is environmentally friendly, its film-forming mechanism is different from that of traditional hexavalent chromium, and the passivate layer has a poorer structure and densification, which may lead to a relatively low salt spray resistance. The high porosity of the passivation layer can easily lead to the penetration of corrosive media, thus reducing the corrosion resistance of the film layer.
Secondly, the formulation and process conditions of different passivate solutions also have a significant impact on the quality of the film layer. By comparing a well-formulated passivate with a generally formulated passivate, it is obvious that the corrosion resistance of the former is generally better than that of the latter. By optimizing the components of the passivate solution, such as adding appropriate amount of cobalt salt or nickel salt, the densification and corrosion resistance of the film layer can be improved. Therefore, it is important to choose a good passivate such as Bigely black zinc passivator BZ-217.
Trivalent chromium black zinc passivator BZ-217 is a black passivate free of hexavalent chromium and is widely used in rack and barrel plating. Its good resistance to impurities and long service life make operation and maintenance easier. What's more, BZ-217 shows good corrosion resistance by resisting white rust in salt spray test for more than 72 hours when used with a sealer. This is due to Bigely technology in formulation optimization and process control, which enables BZ-217 to form a dense passivation film layer, thus providing good protection.
