A customer inquired that during the production process using matte tin additives, the porosity of the tin coating on the workpiece is large and prone to discoloration. Is this related to the maintenance of the plating solution?

Based on on-site experience and the characteristics of the product matte tin additive Sn-808, Bigley Technology analyzed that the occurrence of this phenomenon in the tin plating layer is related to the maintenance of the plating solution, mainly including the following three points:

1. The amount of additives added should be well controlled, and the principle of frequent addition and minimal addition should be followed. This can avoid excessive organic impurities in the plating solution from being mixed in the workpiece coating, resulting in darkening and increased pores in the tin coating.

2. During the production process, efforts should be made to prevent interference from foreign metals. When the workpiece falls out of the slot, it should be promptly removed, and attention should be paid to not immersing the copper hook of the anode into the tin plating solution. 99.99% pure tin should be used for the tin anode, and the plating solution should be regularly purified to reduce the inclusion of foreign metal impurities and mechanical impurities in the tin plating layer, avoiding discoloration caused by the formation of micro battery corrosion coatings in the tin plating layer.

3. During the production process, it is necessary to control the concentration of tin ions in the plating solution. When the concentration of tin ions is too low, will the zinc coating be relatively rough, especially when the current density is high, the pores of the tin coating are large, which is easy to cause impurities to be mixed. The rough surface of the coating is prone to residual electrolyte, which can form micro battery corrosion and cause discoloration of the tin coating.

So, in the production process of using matte tin additives, the maintenance and management of the plating solution is very important. Pay more attention to the above three points, which can effectively avoid the phenomenon of large pores and easy discoloration of the tin coating, and thus improve production efficiency.
