In the production process of trivalent chromium color passivation, the gloss of the passivation film is one of the important indicators of its quality. However, the problem of poor passivate film gloss is often encountered in practice. This phenomenon involves a variety of factors, including the composition of the trivalent chromium colored zinc passivator, the quality of the plating layer, and the control of the passivation process.

First of all, the composition of the trivalent chromium colored zinc passivator has a crucial influence on the gloss of the passivate film. The concentration of trivalent chromium ions in the passivate solution directly affects the film formation reaction. When the trivalent chromium concentration is low, the film formation speed is slow, the passivate film is thin and easy to color, the gloss is naturally poor; with the trivalent chromium concentration increases, the film formation speed is accelerated, the film thickness increases, the gloss will be improved; but the concentration is too high, the film formation speed is too fast resulting in yellowing of the film layer, the surface is loose, the same will reduce the gloss.

Secondly, the quality of the plating layer is also an important factor affecting the gloss of the passivation film. The flatness, gloss and purity of the surface of the plating layer will affect the appearance of the passivated layer. If there are defects in the plating layer itself, such as roughness of the surface, lack of gloss or low purity, then the gloss of the passivated film will also be affected.

Furthermore, the control of the passivation process should not be overlooked. The time, temperature and degree of agitation of the passivation reaction must be strictly controlled to ensure the uniformity and appearance of the film. Loss of control in any one of these areas can result in a loss of passivation film gloss.
