When we use acid copper brightener for production, a small amount of chloride ion is required in the plating solution to obtain a full bright copper plating layer.Chlorine ion plays a role in expanding the bright range, and can catalyze and help brightener plating a uniform, bright, smooth and compact copper coating. So, how should we analyze the concentration of chloride ions in the plating solution during production?

According to the field experience of acid copper brightener Cu-510, Bigolly Technology shares the analysis method of chloride ion in the plating solution:

    1. Analysis principle:Add 0.2ml 0.1mol/L silver nitrate solution to the acid copper plating solution, and then titrate the plating solution with 0.01mol/L mercury nitrate standard solution. The titration end point is when the plating solution becomes clear from turbidity.

    2. Analytical reagent:(1:1) Nitric acid solution, 0.1mol/L AgNO3 solution, 0.01mol/L mercuric nitrate standard solution.

    3. Analysis method:

Pipette 50ml of plating solution sample, place it in a 250ml beaker, add 30ml of pure water and 20ml of (1:1) nitric acid solution, add 0.2ml of 0.1mol/L silver nitrate solution, and stir evenly.Immediately titrate with 0.01mol/L mercuric nitrate standard solution until the solution is turbid nitric acid as the end point, and record the milliliters V of mercuric nitrate standard solution titrated.

    Calculation: Cl - (mg/L)=V * 0.01 * f * 35500/50

Note: Cl - is the content of chloride ion in the plating solution mg/L, V is the volume number ml of titrated mercuric nitrate standard solution, 0.01 * f is the equivalent concentration and correction coefficient of mercuric nitrate standard solution, 35500 is the milligram equivalent of chloride ion, and 50 is the amount ml taken from the plating solution.

In this way, we can timely analyze and adjust the concentration of chloride ions in the plating solution during the use of acid copper brightener, so as to better control the plating solution and avoid failures. If you are interested in acid copper brightener, please contact Bigolly customer service for free samples and detailed technical information!
