① The cleaning before plating was not thorough
This is its main way of introduction. For the strong corrosion and activation of steel parts before plating, hydrochloric acid is still mostly used. However, in industrial production, the pre-plating cleaning is often not thorough, and it is even more reluctant to use running pure water for cleaning. Therefore, not only are divalent iron ions introduced into the plating solution, but also a large amount of chloride ions are introduced.
② Urban tap water has a high chlorine content
When treating urban tap water, in the pretreatment process, to remove solid suspended matter, substances like basic aluminum chloride are often added for flocculation treatment. When disinfecting, chlorine-based disinfectants and the like are often used to kill Escherichia coli and the like.
It is a common sense that electroplating is very particular about water quality. This also determines that even if the reclaimed water that can be discharged up to standard after being treated by chemical methods alone is directly reused in electroplating production, the reuse rate cannot be high. However, if ion exchange and membrane separation technologies are used for further advanced treatment, the cost would be too high.
