During the process of using acid zinc plating brightener, some electroplating plants' plating solutions tend to produce floating oil, which is the oily substance floating on the surface of the plating solution. What should be done about this?
1. The pre-treatment process failed to remove oil properly. There was a large amount of organic oil in the plating tank, which reacted with the surfactants to form soaps, etc. The floating oil in the acid zinc plating solution has a high viscosity and is prone to adhere to the tank walls, fixtures, rollers, anode plates and the plated parts, making it difficult to be completely removed. Moreover, the acidic zinc plating solution is weakly acidic and does not have the ability to remove oil by itself.
2. The acid zinc plating solution contains a considerable amount of iron ions, and the solution is generally rather turbid. The conductive salt potassium chloride has a significant influence on the turbidity point of the plating solution. When there are a large number of iron impurities in the solution, the turbidity point of the acid zinc plating additive will drop significantly.
3. The pH value of the acid zinc plating solution should be ≥ 6.0. During the production process, it is necessary to ensure that the pH value of the acid zinc plating solution is maintained within the range of 5.6 - 6.0.
After identifying the cause of the floating oil on the acid galvanizing solution surface, the problem can be easily solved. It is advisable to choose high-quality acid galvanizing brighteners, such as BZ-528 from Bigely Technology, and ensure that the surface of the plated parts is free of oil, rust and dirt after the pretreatment process. Also, control the pH value of the galvanizing solution and iron impurities properly.
