What malfunction problems can be caused if the pH value of the electroless nickel plating solution is not well controlled?
Hydrogen ions are one of the products of the electroless nickel plating reaction. Electroless nickel plating is a process in which the concentration of hydrogen ions in the plating bath continuously increases, and there are quite a few buffers in the bath solution. So, does this mean that there is no need to specially adjust the pH value?
The answer is no. During this process, electroplating plants still need to continuously add pH adjusters in order to control the pH value well. Because the pH value has a significant impact on the electroless nickel plating process, great attention should be paid to the control of the bath solution pH value during the electroless nickel plating operation.
Different electroless nickel plating solutions have different pH value operating ranges. For instance, the pH value of low-phosphorus electroless nickel plating is close to neutral, while the pH value operating range of acidic electroless nickel plating is mostly between 4.8 and 5.1. Successful commercial electroless nickel plating solutions such as Ni-809 from Bigely should be well-researched, developed and carefully calculated optimized systems, all of which simultaneously indicate the operating range and optimal value of their pH values.
