During local thickening, the deposition rate is about half slower than that of normal chrome plating. This is mainly because during the electroplating process, the area of the anode is larger than that of the cathode, which leads to an increase in the oxidation reaction and a decrease in trivalent chromium, thus resulting in a slower deposition rate.

Therefore, during the application of hard chrome additives, the electroplating plant can double the current density, or adopt methods such as having an anode area similar to the cathode area, using segmented thickening, and shape-based anodes to solve the problem.

The chrome plating method with thicker coating at the acute angle areas

When thickening and chrome-plating the edges of acute or sharp-angle parts, the chrome coating at the sharp corner often becomes too thick and protrudes. During the grinding process, due to the brittleness of the chrome coating, severe peeling and cracks occur at the sharp corner of the chrome coating.
