Blistering caused by excessive content of the brightener

If the nickel plating brightener is added in excessive amounts, it will inevitably increase the decomposition of organic substances. When the organic impurities in the coating accumulate too much, it will increase the internal stress of the coating, thereby causing the brittleness to increase and resulting in coating blistering.

Therefore, when the electroplating factory uses Bigely nickel plating brightener Ni-301, we will arrange engineers to provide technical support and assist the customers in properly adding the brightener.

Defects such as pores and cracks on the workpiece surface can cause blistering

During the electroplating process, the hydrogen gas produced by the defects in these areas has difficulty escaping through the narrow outlets. The greater the resistance, the more it is forced to remain inside. Eventually, during the drying and aging treatment, the gas expands due to heat, pushing up the nickel layer and forming blistering.

Also, due to the presence of solutions in these areas, after the plating process, after a certain period of time or in the acidic or alkaline solution during drying or aging, the acid, alkali and the substrate or the coating itself undergo chemical reactions, reducing the bonding strength between the coating and the base metal. As a result, the pressure caused by hydrogen causes the coating and the base metal to separate, forming blistering.
