During the process of using chromium plating additives, sometimes the covering ability of the coating is very poor, which affects the quality of the coating. So, what factors affect the covering ability of the chromium plating layer?
1. The concentration of chromic anhydride in the plating solution is too low. When the concentration of chromic anhydride in the plating solution is too low, it will lead to poor coverage of the coating and also cause defects such as nickel leakage. Therefore, during the production process, the concentration of chromic anhydride in the plating solution and the ratio of chromic anhydride to sulfuric acid should be analyzed and adjusted properly.
2. The sulfate content in the plating solution is either too high or too low. The sulfate content in the plating solution should be analyzed and adjusted regularly. When the sulfate content is high, the concentration of chromic anhydride can be appropriately increased or barium carbonate can be used to remove it. Generally, 2g/L of barium carbonate can remove 1g/L of sulfate. When the concentration of sulfuric acid is too low, it should be replenished to the process range.
3. Excessive chloride ion content. When the chloride ion content in the plating solution exceeds 0.5g/L, the covering power, current efficiency and adhesion of the coating will all decline significantly. At the same time, the chromium coating will also show foggy and mottled phenomena. Chloride ions in the plating solution can be removed by electrolysis.
4. The current density is too low or the temperature of the plating solution is too low. Current density and plating solution temperature have a significant impact on the performance of the plating solution (such as coverage capacity, current efficiency, etc.). Therefore, parameters such as current density and temperature should be strictly controlled within the process range.
