Let's talk about the double-layer nickel electroplating process

Multi-layer nickel plating is an important combined coating that enhances the protective and decorative performance of steel products by taking advantage of the potential difference between coatings. It is widely used in industries such as machinery, electronics, and automobiles. There are two practical combinations of multi-layer nickel plating: one is double-layer nickel plating, and the other is triple-layer nickel plating. In this article, we will first introduce the double-layer nickel plating process and which nickel plating brighteners should be used in combination to achieve a good plating effect.

Double-layer nickel plating refers to the process of plating semi-bright nickel (without sulfur) + bright nickel (with sulfur), followed by hard chromium plating. The secret to the good corrosion resistance of double-layer nickel plating lies in: Bright nickel is corroded relatively quickly. When the corrosion process reaches the interface of the bright nickel layer, due to the potential difference of 120 to 150mV between these two layers of nickel, another micro-battery is generated. The bright nickel layer with a higher sulfur content becomes the anode of the new micro-battery and continues to be corroded, while the semi-bright nickel acts as the cathode and is protected. The electrochemical protective effect of double-layer nickel is to change the corrosion process from the original longitudinal direction to the transverse direction.
