Is the rapid consumption of nickel salts in the plating solution due to the poor performance of the high-phosphorus electroless nickel plating solution?

During the production process of electroless nickel plating, it is sometimes found that the nickel salts in the plating solution are consumed particularly fast, and the amount of high-phosphorus electroless nickel plating solution added is also relatively large. The deposition rate of the product's electroless nickel layer and the quality of the coating are unstable. Is it because the performance of the high-phosphorus electroless nickel plating solution is relatively poor?

In fact, it's not necessarily so. During the production process of electroless nickel plating, the relatively fast consumption of nickel salts in the plating solution could also be due to the following three reasons:

1. The wall of the electroless nickel tank or the equipment has already deposited a layer of chemical nickel. During the production process, the deposited electroless nickel layer will continue to deposit chemical nickel, resulting in a rapid consumption of nickel ions. At this point, production should be immediately halted, and the plating solution should be filtered into a clean empty tank. The deposited electroless nickel in the plating tank or equipment should be immersed in a 1:1 nitric acid solution. After the plating bath is thoroughly soaked and cleaned, pour the plating solution back into the bath and continue production.

2. If the load on the electroless nickel plating bath is too large, the plating solution will be overloaded, the deposition rate will be too fast, and the nickel ions will be consumed rapidly. As a result, the plating solution will be scrapped prematurely. During production, the loading volume of the product should be reasonably calculated and controlled within the process range as much as possible.

3. If the temperature or pH value of the electroless nickel plating solution is too high, the deposition rate of the electroless nickel coating will be too fast, which can easily trigger the spontaneous decomposition of the plating solution. During the production process, the temperature and pH value of the plating solution should be strictly controlled to ensure the uniform deposition of the electroless nickel coating and also to extend the service life of the plating solution.
