Is it due to improper use of nickel plating additives that the nickel plating layer on the workpiece is prone to burning?

During the production process of electroplating nickel, sometimes the nickel plating layer of the workpiece is prone to burning, which affects the appearance performance of the workpiece. The quality of the coating on the workpiece is substandard, which affects the progress of production. Is it due to improper use of nickel plating additives in electroplating that the workpiece is prone to burning?

Based on on-site experience and the characteristics of the products, Bigely Technology has conducted an analysis, and there are mainly the following three reasons:

1. The concentration of nickel sulfate in the plating solution is low. Nickel sulfate is the main source of nickel ions. When the concentration of nickel sulfate is low, the uniform plating ability of the plating solution is relatively good, but the current efficiency of the cathode is low, the upper limit of the current density of the cathode is small, and the coating is relatively rough or has a charring phenomenon.

2. The concentration of boric acid in the plating solution is low. Boric acid is a common buffer in plating solutions and can stabilize the pH value of nickel plating solutions. When the concentration of boric acid in the plating solution is low, the pH value is unstable, and the coating is prone to phenomena such as mottling, brittleness, fogging and charring.

3. The pH value of the plating solution is too high. The pH value of the nickel plating solution has a significant impact on the nickel deposition process and the quality of the nickel layer obtained. When the pH value of the plating solution is too high, basic nickel salt precipitation is prone to occur near the cathode, causing bubbles to remain on the cathode surface. As a result, the nickel plating layer will be mixed with basic nickel salts, leading to rough crystallization and discoloration of the nickel layer.
