During the production process of the bright copper plating technology, adding normal acid copper brightener can quickly achieve the desired results of high brightness, good filling property and good leveling ability for the plated layer. However, sometimes the consumption of our acid copper brightener is much higher than usual. What could be the reason for this?
1. The bath temperature is too high. When the bath temperature is high, it will increase the conductivity of the bath, accelerate the deposition speed of the coating, but the consumption of the brightener will increase, and the crystallization of the bath will be relatively rough. Bigely suggests that the bath temperature should be controlled between 20 and 45 degrees Celsius.
2. The concentration of sulfuric acid in the plating solution is too high. Sulfuric acid in the plating solution can reduce the resistance of the solution and prevent the hydrolysis and precipitation of copper sulfate. Although an excessively high concentration of sulfuric acid can enhance the uniform plating ability, the brightener is prone to decomposition. During the production process, the concentration of sulfuric acid should be analyzed and adjusted regularly.
3. Insufficient anode or anode passivation. When using phosphorus copper anodes and encountering insufficient anode or anode passivation, copper ions will be released from the phosphorus copper anode, causing the copper ions in the plating solution to increase. This reduces the dispersion ability of the plating solution, resulting in a smaller brightening range of the coating. At this time, the consumption of the brightening agent will increase. Therefore, during the production process, it is necessary to regularly check the condition of the anode plate and adjust the anode area within the normal range.
4. Imbalance in the addition of acid copper brightener. Some operators may add more brightener to enhance the brightness of the workpiece. However, this can easily cause imbalance in the brightener and lead to waste of the brightener. Moreover, the accumulation of decomposition products of the brightener will be relatively rapid, which will affect the performance of the brightener. The addition of acid copper brightener can be regularly analyzed and adjusted through the Hell cell experiment. This way, the maintenance of the electrolyte is good and the consumption of the brightener is also low.
