How to scientifically determine the pH value when using electroless nickel concentrate

When using electroless nickel concentrate, how can the pH value of the bath solution be scientifically tested? Why is it that improper pH value control is prone to production failures?

Electroless nickel plating plants generally measure the pH value of the plating solution through two methods: pH meters and pH test paper. It should be noted that the readings of some pH test papers may differ from those of pH meters by as much as 0.5.

In some electroless plating processes, the pH value reading may be inaccurate due to the salt ion effect in the bath solution. When the electroless nickel plating solution ages, the accumulation of ions such as NH+ and Cl- will cause changes in the ionic strength of the solution. As a result, the pH test paper reacts differently to the new bath solution from to the old plating bath.

To obtain reliable measurement results, the pH meter must be calibrated. The common mistake that affects the measurement accuracy of pH meters is ignoring the influence of temperature on pH values.
