After our workpieces are coated with a nickel plating layer using medium phosphorus electroless nickel solution, they will go through the cleaning and drying processes. Then, does the workpiece need to undergo passivation treatment after the medium phosphorus electroless nickel plating is completed?

In fact, after the workpieces are plated with medium phosphorus electroless nickel, they need to undergo passivation treatment. Although different workpieces have different purposes and technical requirements, the subsequent treatment after medium phosphorus electroless nickel plating is basically the same. Here, Bigely Technology offers the post-treatment process of medium phosphorus electroless nickel:

1. Cleaning and drying. The purpose of this step is to completely remove the residual plating solution on the surface of the workpiece and maintain a good appearance of the coating. After the workpiece is electroplated with medium phosphorus electroless nickel, it should be quickly lifted and thoroughly cleaned to ensure that there is no residual plating solution on the surface of the workpiece. Then, the workpiece should be dried.

2. Passivation and sealing. Due to the certain porosity of the medium phosphorus electroless nickel coating, passivation or sealing treatment is required after the medium phosphorus electroless nickel plating is completed, which can effectively improve the corrosion resistance of the workpiece. However, high-phosphorus electroless nickel coatings generally do not require sealing treatment due to their low porosity or no porosity at all.

3. Heat treatment. The workpiece undergoes heat treatment to enhance the hardness of the electroless nickel coating to meet the technical hardness requirements. Generally, the heat treatment of the medium phosphorus electroless nickel coating is carried out at 400℃ for one hour. It should be noted that when conducting heat treatment, the alloy composition of the medium phosphorus electroless nickel coating needs to be determined first, so that the heat treatment effect will be better.
