Can the cyanide-free alkaline copper additive replace the cyanide copper plating process?
Copper cyanide plating is a long-standing pre-plating process that contains highly toxic cyanide and poses significant risks to the health of operators and the environment. Although the process is stable and easy to maintain, the wastewater must undergo cyanide removal treatment. This, however, limits its application. Therefore, the surface treatment research team at Bingley has embarked on the research of non-cyanide alkaline copper additives.
It is well known that one of the major advantages of the cyanide copper plating process is its excellent adhesion. Can the adhesion of the plating layer produced by the anodic alkaline copper plating process meet the requirements? Many electroplating enterprises have tried some of the anodic alkaline copper plating processes available on the market, but during actual production, the adhesion of the plating layer often shows poor performance, especially for thin parts and low currents.
To solve the problem, Bigely developed the cyanide-free alkaline copper additive Cu-231. For aluminum materials, they were first coated with Cu-231 as the base layer and then nickel was applied. The product was then subjected to high-temperature baking (baking at 270 degrees Celsius for 5 minutes), followed by a rapid cooling test. The coating did not exhibit phenomena such as blistering or peeling, indicating good adhesion.
