What causes a plating plant to use decorative chrome additives where the tank voltage is high but no bubbles precipitate on the cathode? The characteristics of chromium plating determine that it requires a different power supply from other plating types. First of all, the current density of chrome plating is high, 5~10 times higher than that of general electroplating; the current efficiency of chrome plating is low, and there is a large amount of gas precipitation at the cathode and anode, so no matter decorative chrome plating or hard chrome plating needs to be used with a higher voltage (≥12V).
For the need of some special chrome layers, there are also special requirements for the ripple factor; hard chrome plating needs to work for a long time, which puts special requirements on the reliability of the power supply: chrome mist has a serious impact on the workshop environment, so when choosing the installation and location of the power supply, not only the environmental factors, but also the loss of the line and the connecting wires and so on need to be taken into account.
