We all know that in the production process using hard chrome additives, the workpiece can obtain a hard chrome coating with good brightness, high hardness, wear resistance and corrosion resistance. However, sometimes the hardness of the hard chrome plating of the workpiece will be low, resulting in the workpiece can not meet the requirements of machining, what is the reason for this?
1. Influence of chromic acid concentration. Generally the concentration of chromic acid in the plating solution should be controlled in the range of 220-280g/L. The hardness of the plated layer is high when the concentration of chromic acid is low, but the plating solution is unstable and the hardness of the plated layer is low when the concentration of chromic acid is low.
2. Influence of sulfuric acid content. Sulfuric acid plays a catalytic role in hard chrome plating solution, generally the ratio of chromic acid and sulfuric acid should be kept at 100:1, when the other concentration is unchanged, with the increase of sulfuric acid content, the hardness of the plated layer is also correspondingly high. However, when the ratio of chromic acid and sulfuric acid is more than 100:1.4, and then increase the content of sulfuric acid, the hardness of the plated layer will gradually decrease.
3. Influence of current density. Under normal temperature, with the increase of current density, the hardness of plating layer is also increasing, when the current density reaches a certain limit the hardness of plating layer tends to stabilize.
