A friend came to report that there was a problem with the use of nickel plating brightener on his nickel plating production line. In the past few days, the lower part of the produced workpieces has turned black, and they have been constantly complained about and returned by customers. So what causes the nickel layer in the low area of the workpiece to turn black?
1. Nickel layer thickness is too thin. The production process should control the temperature, pH and current density of the plating solution, to avoid the plating layer is too thin, after passivation, the plating layer appears gray, black phenomenon.
2. The plating solution component content is out of balance. The content of the components in the plating solution is seriously out of balance, such as too high a content of nickel sulfate or too low a content of chloride ions, the conductivity of the plating solution is poor, resulting in poor dispersion of the plating solution, the plating layer is thin.
3. Insufficient brightener in plating solution. Appropriate brightener can refine the crystallization of the plating layer, expand the range of bright current density of the plating layer, and get bright, flat and low brittleness plating layer. When the concentration of brightener is insufficient, the brightness of the plated layer is poor and there is a blackening phenomenon. The concentration of brightener can be analyzed and adjusted by Hull bath test.
4. The influence of metal impurities. Plating solution in the metal impurities (such as copper, zinc) content exceeds the permissible value, low current density area of the plating layer will be dark, black phenomenon.
